Noonan is alleged to have got into a drunken assault and punched the female officer’s nose after refusing to leave a Darling Harbour bar in the early hours of May 26.
According to a police spokesperson, Noonan became “intoxicated” while drinking at the bar. After refusing to leave at midnight, he was confronted by plain clothes police officers and is alleged to have got into a “physical altercation” with them.
The actor, originally from Cork, appeared before Parramatta Bail Court via video link from his Surry Hills police holding cell. He attempted to apologise for the altercation but was cut off by his legal aid lawyer.
“Your honour can I give you my version of events,” Noonan said via video link, according to the Daily Telegraph.
“I would just like to say I’m really apologetic for what happened.
“I would never hit anybody especially not a female police officer.”
His legal aide representative interjected: “Mr Noonan if you could refrain from talking on the public record that’s in your best interest”.
Noonan has been granted bail and charged with assaulting police causing actual bodily harm, resisting arrest, offensive language and failing to leave a licensed venue.
