House Rules star Daniella Winter’s bullying heartbreak
House Rules contestant Daniella Winter may be on a popular Australian show, but the star has confessed she hasn’t always had an easy ride.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Winter opened up about her difficult experiences with childhood bullies.
Winter, 38 who is currently on the Channel 7 show alongside husband Aaron, reveals the bullying she experienced in primary school was so bad it prompted depression.
“I’ve always been genetically very thin and people do come up to me and go, ‘Hey, you’re bulimic’,’’ she said.
But it wasn’t just the emotional taunts, Winter told the publication she even had her arm broken by a boy who pushed her to the ground after she tried to stand up to his teasing.
“I was always self-conscious about how I looked and I would come home every night in tears,” she said.
The mother of two says her only escape was to focus on her extra curricular actviities like dancing. Even still, she faced more judgement from the dance industry based on her facial features.
“I remember I got told I wouldn’t have a professional dance career if I didn’t do something about my look,” she said.
As a result, at 21-years-of-age who claims she has “her really big and really long nose”, chose to undertake a nose job and years later she believes it made all the difference.
“It gave me a confidence I never had before. I felt like this strong, independent woman and still to this day, no one can tell me what to do. No one is getting in my way. Go ahead, talk about my look, I don’t care,” she said.
