Australia has fallen in love Troy and Bec, but Troy’s life before House Rules has not always been so blissful.
Speaking to New Idea, Troy reveals the terrifying moment he feared for his life.
Just over a year ago, Troy worked as a supervisor at a club and sadly while he was he experienced two armed robberies while on shift.
“I was working seven days a week in two clubs. I worked my way up to supervisor and there were two robberies and because I was the supervisor they came after me. It’s a quiet little club and we were easy targets,” Troy tells the magazine.
“It was the end of the night... They came in, their faces were covered and they were armed with knives and guns... When I figured out what was going on I s*** myself.”
However, things got even worse for Troy as he found himself being physically harmed by one of the burglars.
“I pleaded with them that I couldn’t open it, but they didn’t believe me.”
Miraculously, Troy made it out alive, only to be robbed again. Shortly after, the full impact of the experiences hit him.
“I thought I was alright, but it wasn’t until a couple of nights later that I didn’t feel safe at home. The whole experience traumatised me,” he says.
“When I look back, it changed my life a lot. It so badly affected me that I stopped working at the club and I’ve been doing whatever I can to pay the bills since then.
“Being uneducated, to work my way up to supervisor was a real achievement. This experience took all that away from me.”
