He has been credited with helping his younger sister shed 60kgs over the past year and a half. But in an exclusive interview, former Neighbours star Daniel MacPherson tells WHO that his younger sister Brodie’s dramatic weight loss is all on her.
“I think she’s been very generous in saying that I helped her,” says MacPherson, a longtime athlete who has been open about his own struggles with weight in the past. “Because I know she worked very, very hard herself. She just told me I’d been an inspiration for her to get fit and healthy.”
Instead of providing talent agent Brodie with a specific meal and exercise plan, MacPherson—himself a longtime triathlete and extreme sports aficionado—says he used words of encouragement.
“All I said was that I hoped she would make that change in her life at 24 rather than at 34, because I knew how much more there was in life for her to enjoy. And I didn’t want her to wait to enjoy it.”
In past Instagram posts, Brodie has referred to herself as “a former chubby girl who awkwardly loved leopard” and said her brother “got my ass out the door” to work out in the open air. Interestingly enough, over the past year her brother decided to move away from his heavy focus on fitness in favour of reigniting his acting career.
“I was in a bit of a no man’s land there for a couple of years,” admits MacPherson. “Change can be really uncomfortable, it can be tough. But I got through it, and I’m now rewarded with what I think is the most satistfying time of my career thus far. It was scary to just make a 180-degree turn. But it was worth it.”
His renewed focus seems to have paid off: MacPherson stars in the upcoming FOX8 drama APB, which premieres in February, and has also landed roles in the upcoming Oprah Winfrey/Reese Witherspoon film A Wrinkle in Time and a reboot of the British series Strike Back.
