The couple attended the Melbourne Cup together in November 2002 while they were still dating.
Two years after Mary moved to Denmark, on October 8, 2003, it was announced that the couple were engaged.
"I don't recall wishing that one day I would be a princess," Mary said shortly after the engagement. "I wanted to be a veterinarian."
The world watched in wonder as former real estate agent, Mary, married her prince on May 14, 2004, at Copenhagen Cathedral in the nation's capital.
Mary’s bridesmaids included her sister Patricia Bailey, her friend Amber Petty and her eldest sister Jane Alison Stephens.
Her father, John Donaldson walked her down the aisle as she wore a gown by Danish designer Uffe Frank.
And with their wedding, Mary became Australia’s own real life princess.
Frederik and Mary are now the proud parents of four children: Prince Christian (born on October 15, 2005), Princess Isabella (born on April 21, 2007), and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine (born January 8, 2011).
