How To Block A Contact On My iPhone?
Unfortunately, Apple doesn’t immediately present the option to block a phone number. You might need to tinker with your iPhone’s settings for a bit, but once you get the hang of it, it’s a piece of cake.
From The Contacts Menu:
Contacts >Settings >Phone >Call Blocking and Identification >Block Contact
From The Settings Menu:
Select either Messages or Facetime and follow the above steps.
Blocking An Unknown Mobile (or No Caller ID) Number:
Phone app > Recents
Tap the blue “i” button, bring up their contact card, and choose “Block This Caller”. It’s the same process if you block someone on your Messages.
Follow any of the steps above, and voila – you’ll never have to hear from that person again, at least not on your phone. Alternatively, you can also look into some block apps on the Apple store.
A blocked contact won’t be able to send you iMessages, calls, texts, or Facetime you at all. You can block as many people as you like, so don’t be shy about using this feature if you really need it.
How Do I Unblock A Mobile Number?
Congrats! You’ve learned how to block a phone number – but what if you want to take it back? If you’ve decided that said number has learned their lesson from being on your blacklist, unblocking them is easy:
From the Settings Menu:
Phone > Call Blocking and Identification
You’ll see your blocklist here. Tapping it will bring you to all the numbers you’ve blocked from all sources, with an “edit” button in the top right-hand corner. Tapping THAT will allow you to delete contacts from this list, which will enable them to send you calls and messages again.
Alternatively, you can also go to the Messages and Facetime menus in Settings and unblock contacts from there. There’s also an option to unblock people in your Recents, though it’s a little tricky to use if you’re trying to unblock a number that you don’t know very well.
Can Contacts Tell If You’ve Blocked Them?
Not really. The best way for them how to know that you’ve put them on call blocker is to ask you directly – aside from that, they won’t have any idea that you’ve done it.
When you block a number on your iPhone, it automatically forwards all of their texts and calls to a separate folder called “Blocked Messages”. Private numbers and private calls are all sorted to this folder, which you can check out whenever you like.
Blocking contacts will also allow their messages to be sent through without you needing to read them. They can technically still send you messages or texts, but your iPhone will act like it never happened. This does mean that your more attentive friends will start to notice that you’re not answering their messages anymore, so be prepared for that.
Can I Still Call Or Text A Number On My Blacklist?
Absolutely! Blocking a contact on your iPhone is a one-way street.
If you want to block a number PERMANENTLY, leave it on your block-list and delete it from your contacts. It's also an excellent way to stop yourself from calling or texting this number again. You can also change your number, though that may seem a tad extreme.
Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind
You might feel like blocking people is a little bit rude, but the feature can seriously come in handy. We’re all entitled to a bit of peace and quiet in our lives!
