"New Year, New You" takes on a whole new meaning. - by Catie Powers
  • 29 Dec 2021

We’re finally waving goodbye to 2021 (thank God) which means that everyone has gone into self-reflection mode. What did we accomplish this year, and what energy do we want to bring into 2022?

Enter New Year’s Resolutions. To read more, join a gym, find a romantic partner.  Most of us have a goal for the upcoming year, but whether or not we accomplish it is a different story.

Enter again, manifestation. Ahh yes, it's the buzzword of the moment that influencers can’t get enough of. But what actually is manifestation? And how is it going to help us achieve our 'New Year, New Me' dreams?

What is manifestation?

According to the bible… we mean, Oprah Daily: “Essentially, manifestation is bringing something tangible into your life through attraction and belief, i.e. if you think it, it will come.”

Okay, then why hasn’t Harry Styles come into my life? Well, it turns out, it’s not as simple as that. So, we’ve scoured the internet to figure out how exactly manifestation works and how we can utilise it in 2022.

1. Envision and write down your goals

First thing’s first, you need to actually figure out what your specific goals are so you can properly manifest them. Then, write down your goals repeatedly on a piece of paper (or even the notes app in your phone will do).

This helps the goal in your head turn into a tangible reminder of what you want to work towards in your everyday life.

Which brings us to our next point...

2. Put in the work

Sadly, it's not enough to write out a bunch of lines and sit back with your hands behind your head waiting for the good times to start rolling in – believe me, I've tried.

You have to actively work towards achieving your goal. We know… gross, right? But it’s true, you receive the energy you put out into the world.

Working towards big picture items can be overwhelming. Taking things baby step by baby step can be an ideal way to relieve any pressure and see consistent progress.

For example, if your goal for 2022 is to make new friends, a small step for day one could be joining a new sports team or book club.

Then, the next action could be striking up a conversation with someone, inviting them to hang out outside of that activity.

3. Take ownership and accountability

If you’re not achieving your goals as quickly as you want, it can be extremely disheartening.

Sometimes, resistance comes from external factors (thanks COVID), but other times it can be our own actions (or inactions) that affect our progress.

Whether that be a lack of motivation or self-doubt, there are many personal mental and physical roadblocks that are bound to show up.

When the self-doubt comes, a good defence mechanism can be writing down your daily, weekly, or monthly steps and accomplishments – whatever works for you.

Not only does this allow you to take accountability for your progress, it reinforces how far you’ve come in achieving your goals.

4. Trust the process and celebrate the small wins

Depending on what goal you’re working towards, the manifestation process may be a long one.

It can be easy to give up when we don’t receive instant gratification. But that’s why it’s so important to celebrate the small wins and not get bogged down in any setbacks.

A good tip for any negative, ‘I can’t do this’, thought that pops into your mind is to counter it with three positives that you have experienced during working towards your goal.

Considering the friends example from earlier; if you’re upset that you’re not making many new pals as quickly as you’d like, focus on the fact that you’ve joined a new club that could open other opportunities, you’re learning new skills, and you’ve stepped out of your comfort zone which is all a part of character building.

A good way to remember the small wins is through keeping a gratitude journal to remind yourself of what you have been thankful for throughout the process.

At the end of the day, everyone manifests differently depending on the energy they want to bring into their life.

As we enter 2022, just remember to work hard, stay positive, and celebrate the small wins.

And, who knows, maybe Harry styles will appear on your doorstep and ask you to start a new life with him. But I call dibs.
