But why, we ask?
Well, not only is Tom Holland a brilliant Spidey, and these films some of the best in the MCU franchise, the directors are pulling something off no one has dared before.
You see, Tom Holland is far from the only Spider-Man, and his remakes come only a few years after the last iteration of the superhero, starring Andrew Garfield.
And screenwriters Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna saw a great opportunity there: bringing back the villains that we’d seen in not only Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, but in Tobey Maguire’s mid-2000s version as well.
And as Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina began to confirm they’d be returning to the MCU in their roles as various Spider-Man villains, speculation ran wild across the fanbase.
Were Tobey and Andrew coming back, too?
We’re not going to spoil it for you, though. We’re just here to help you wrap your heads around the timelines, which are about to get complex.
While Disney have taken it upon themselves to reveal the true order of the endless stream of films in the MCU, Spider-Man steps outside it, given the original two series were produced respectively by Columbia Pictures and Sony.
So, the only way – we think? – is to watch them in order. Here's how!
Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man
You can catch all of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man films in their early 2000’s glory on BINGE. For reference, that’s:
- Spider-Man (2002)
- Spider-Man 2 (2004)
- Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man
The delightful Andrew Garfield (in the role that introduced him to Emma Stone, no less), can be seen as Spider-Man in the following, again on BINGE:
- The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
- The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man
The newer ones are a tad more complicated, but again, you’ll need your BINGE login on hand:
- Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) is available on BINGE.
- Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) is currently available on Netflix, but can also be rented on iTunes and Google Play.
If it’s not already obvious, you just want to go in the order of year until you’re ready to head to cinemas and see No Way Home. Or, maybe you’ve already seen it, and you’re easing your confusion with a movie marathon!
Best of luck to all the Spidey stans out there!
