Whether you’re on holiday or a business trip, or even doing shift work that makes it hard to hit the gym, there are bodyweight exercises that will charge your metabolism and boost your muscle tone. Matt Fox, former athlete, trainer and founder of bodyweightbuilt.com, explains three versatile exercises you can do anywhere.
1. SQUATS Great for total lower-body strength while also helping improve mobility and balance, squats also stimulate fat burning. Keep your chest up and back straight as you sink down until your thighs are parallel to the floor. Press up through the heels to stand and repeat.
2. PUSH-UPS Push-ups not only target your chest, but work out your arms, shoulders and back, as well as your core. Keep your eyes focused on the ground to protect your neck and spine.
3. SIDE LUNGES Lateral lunges are a great way to work often neglected muscles and tendons and ligaments. Take a wide step out and bend that knee so your weight is on the extended leg. Push back to the starting position.
