Stuck in the outdoors, in super-close quarters with a bunch of people you didn't really know until you arrived, sleeping on camp beds, eating rice, beans and raw eyeballs/insects/other interesting tucker trial delights... It's little wonder things get a little nuts.
It's probably what drove Ryan Gallagher and Tanya Hennessy to get involved in the camp's first serious showdown and come (close) to blows over... wait for it... a pair of socks.
Yes, Sockgate landed tonight, and it was as swift as it was savage.
Basically, Ryan accidentally put on a pair of Tanya's socks, and all hell broke loose.
"He's driving me nuts.Nuts!" Tanya vented to camera, after confronting the former Married At First Sight star for thinking her footwear was his.
She'd put her washed socks by the fire to dry, you see, and Ryan – who couldn't find his socks – thought they might've been his.
You'd think he'd remember whether or not he'd put his socks by the fire to dry, but whatever. They weren't his; he asked around (not Tanya, obvs); nobody claimed them so he figured they must be his. Easy mistake to make, right?
But Tanya wasn't happy.
"The sock situation hasblown up but it's nothing to do withthe socks, it's the way Ryan wentabout it," she confided in fellow campmate Erin Barnett.
"It wasn't even like 'I'msorry', he didn't apologise. Itpisses me off that he doesn't evencare."
And then came the tears... which Tanya admitted was kind of weird.
"The smallest things in herebecome crazy... I'm having a cry over socks!"
"She keeps baiting me and baiting me.I don't know why. I have thisfeeling she sees me as an alpha-maleor something, she's got it in forme," he said in a piece to camera.
The tension got pretty high as Tanya tried to talk to Ryan about the whole sitch, and he wouldn't have a bar of it.
"I don't want totalk. I'm not in here for this," he told her. "Ididn't realise the socks were yours, that's fine."
But it wasn't fine, ooooh it was SO not fine. Because then Ryan's camp girlfriend Charlotte Crosby got involved (bless her cotton socks, trying to smooth things out) – and it led the lovebirds to have their first tiff!
"I thinkRyan has communication problems, especially with women. I thinksometimes he says things withoutthinking as well and doesn't realisethe effect it will have on someoneelse," she analysed the situation, after he snapped at the Geordie Shore star when she tried to explain why Tanya wanted an apology.
"Thiswhole sock-gate has escalatedabsolutely everything. It'sescalated to Tanya and Ryan, it'sescalated me and Ryan! Over a pairof Goddamn socks!"
Well said, girl.
Luckily, Charlotte's lack of filter and her zero-tosses-to-give attitude meant she had another attempt at getting Ryan to talk to Tanya... and this time it worked.
"So doyou think that you need to talk toTanya?" she gently pushed. "I saw you werebeing OK with each other but youcan't still avoid the chat."
And so he did.
"Sorry, it's my fault," he stammered as they stood washing dishes. "I'm soapologetic for that first thing... I didn't want it tocome to this."
"Neither did I. It wasdumb. We had a fight over friggingsocks," said Tanya, also apologising.
"I did it and I'm bloody gladI did now because I feel a hell of alot better and we are back to beingfriends," he shared to camera.
"I was an outsider atschool, got into entertainment to bepart of the group, realised I'm anoutsider in the entertainmentworld and... here I am again, going intothe jungle as an outsider!" the magician shared.
TBH, we're kind of excited to see how jungle life affects the magician... who admits he's never been camping before.
"I'mcompletely out of my comfort zone," he shared.
"As an illusionist, it's all about the control and I hope this will teach me and not break me, but teach me how to let go."
