David has actually been sent in as part of a challenge for Poh, who was notified about David’s role in the game before she entered the jungle.
A pre-recorded message from hilarious hosts Julia Morris and Dr Chris Brown explained that it was Poh’s role to help David remain undercover … as a famous person.
Then, the story of ‘The David’ was revealed: a super-influencer, boasting a following of 3.9 million, a shoe designer with a brand of exclusive shoes called ‘8-Inch Daves’.
When they got to camp, David and Poh were ready to go, and sell this narrative hard. As Dave regalled the fellow celebs with tales of his time living overseas and explained that Cardi B had worn his shoes in her WAP music video, absolutely no one raised an eyebrow.
But who is David, really?
While he was introduced as "just a regular guy from the Goldie", it seems the show was under-selling this charismatic character.
Growing up in the UK, David migrated to Australia with his family, where they all still reside on the Gold Coast. He left school at 16 to work at Donut King, but that wasn’t meant for him either.
Dave told Channel 10 that apparently his bosses said “Dave, you’re good with the people, just not the donuts,” and having seen his chatty, easygoing personality for ourselves, we’d believe it.
David headed off on a gap year sometime after and seemed to find himself while living in the party town of Ibiza, but saw no need to settle on a career. He’s worked in retail, publicity, as a night club host, an event emcee, and even held a job selling art in Queenstown, where he says he "made a lot of s**t up!".
While Dave definitely isn’t famous, he has had the occasional brush with fame.
His older sister, Layla Subritzky, appeared on Australian Big Brother in 2012, and came in runner-up. His other sister, Holly Sophia Subritzky, is also something of an influencer, boasting 18.8k followers on Instagram.
In addition to his family, David has been dating his partner, Stephen James, an Australian Armenian body builder, for a year now – and they make one very handsome couple!
While we’re hoping David will stay in the game, continuing to fool the celebrities around him with his pure charm, his identity will have to be revealed eventually.
And honestly? We’re certain that’s when his life as a celebrity will begin.
You can catch I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! on Channel 10 at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night, and then Sunday-Wednesday evenings from the 9th of January.
