Jake and mum-of-four Sophie have already discussed marriage and kids, though Jake says they're not putting any timelines in place.
"When I first met Sophie, understanding that she’s a very independent woman with kids, I was pretty upfront about what I wanted from my life, and that’s marriage and children," he says.
"She’s obviously right behind that and wants to be a part of that as well. We’re both very excited for the future and what that looks like for us being together."
As for what their hypothetical wedding will look like, Jake laughs that Sophie is probably the one to answer that question.
"We both love a very relaxed, chilled lifestyle and we really enjoy that beach vibe. But who knows, at the end of the day we’ll decide when the timing comes and I’m sure it will be as beautiful as the bride will be."
The next big step for Jake is making the move up to Queensland from his home in Melbourne in the upcoming months.
"I’m commuting back and forth at this stage. The plan is to move up north and I’m in the process of doing that at the moment," he says.
"There’s no rush with mine and Sophie’s relationship – we want to make sure that it’s done right. I’ve got to be respectful of the fact that she’s got children and be mindful of that process and what’s involved in that.
"Work for me is something I can do anywhere so that’s a bonus, it’s just a matter of working out the logistics. I’ve got a house in Melbourne that I’ll need to rent out, so it’s just a couple of little things that I need to tie up. But you just don’t want to rush these things, you want to make sure it’s all done correctly."
With Mother's Day approaching, Jake says that he's helped Sophie's sons Kai, 14, Ryder, 12 and five-year-old twin daughters Evie and Aria with some ideas for the day but he'll be spending it with his beloved mum.
Whilst they were separated last year due to lockdown and Jake filming MAFS for three months last year, the former reality star, who has teamed up with OpenTable to encourage people to reconnect with their mums and take them out for lunch and dinner, has a plan sorted for Mother's Day 2021.
"I’ll be spending the day with mum heading back out to the farm where we grew up and putting on a lunch with her and taking her out for dinner that night," he explains.
"If you ask my two older brothers, I’m probably the favourite! I’ve got that youngest child syndrome I’m sure, but my mum and I are very close. Last year was extremely tough – in Victoria we were locked down for four months so I didn’t get to see mum basically for a good part of half of last year."
Speaking of his favourite memory with his mum, Jake adds: "There are so many."
"Obviously football’s a big part of my life, it has been for a long time and I can count on one hand all of the games my mum has not been to. Ever since under nines to today, she comes to every game no matter the weather, day or night and that’s no joke. She’s always been there."
