What Mayer said before they started dating
Before John Mayer's relationship with Jessica Simpson he didn't think he'd date a girl like her. In an interview with Playboy magazine, he said that she'd had a huge effect on him.
"There are people in the world who have the power to change our values," Mayer said. "Have you ever been with a girl who made you want to quit the rest of your life?"
But rather than quit the rest of his life, they went through a break up. Mayer and Simpson ended their relationship in 2007.
What John Mayer said about Jessica Simpson
In 2010, three years after they had split, Mayer famously gave an interview to Playboy magazine where he described his previous addiction to Simpson.
In the story, he revealed what he loved most about her.
"That girl, for me, is a drug. And drugs aren’t good for you if you do lots of them. Yeah, that girl is like crack cocaine to me... Sexually it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say. It was like napalm, sexual napalm..."
How did Jessica Simpson react to John Mayer's comments?
Simpson wasn't best pleased and in a 2010 interview with Oprah she revealed she was disappointed in Mayer's comments.
“There’s nothing worse than being disappointed in somebody,” she said. Oprah went on to ask if Simpson was angry at Mayer's comment about their love life.
“I’m not angry. I’m… well, I’m a little bit angry,” she replied.
What Jessica Simpson thinks about John Mayer
Simpson was clearly hurt by Mayer's comments and she expressed her sense of betrayal to Oprah. "Maybe in his mind he was giving me a compliment - but he wasn't," she said.
"It made me so sad and it was discouraging because it wasn't the John that I knew."
"I felt betrayed and I hope he gets his life together. He did apologise to me but I haven't written back and I don't accept it."
"I don't resent him I'm just gonna let that go."
In another interview with iHeart Radio, she was able to laugh about his comments and even made a joke about why his words cut her so much.
"He gave away my game!" she joked. "I'm like the good girl!"
