On the cover Roberts is wearing a big, tulle pink princess gown by Giambattista Valli Haute Couture paired with black high-top sneakers by Dior. The actress’s long mane is free-flowing with slightly dishevelled waves, perhaps to match the wild and free setting of the shoot.
It appears most of the stunning dresses in the story are teamed with sneakers giving the shoot a more relatable and current feel. Another shot shows Julia in a green Dior Haute Couture gown, Bulgari bracelet, Harry Winston earrings and Nike sneakers. This seems to be a representation of the times and making high-fashion seem a little less over-the-top and more attainable.
Nothing is taken away from the wow-factor of the story though as the one of the most visually- striking shots show Julia climbing up a steep cliff (the theme of the shoot was ‘daring’) with her haute couture gown flowing down the side of the rock. How she did this with a big smile and looking effortless, we’ll never know.
Oprah asks her about this in the interview “The theme of Harper’s Bazaar this month is daring, and so you actually decided that you were going to do something daring because you’re afraid of heights. That’s what I heard. Is that correct?” to which the star replies “I am afraid of heights and it's funny because I've always been afraid of heights.”
It seems even Oscar-winning actresses are affected by negative comments as Julia also touches on the dark side of social media. She opens up about a picture her niece Emma Roberts posted of the both of them saying “'One weekend morning Emma slept over, and we got up and were having tea and playing cards and having this beautiful morning, and then a couple of days later she posted a picture of us. 'And the number of people who felt absolutely required to talk about how terrible I looked in the picture — that I’m not aging well, that I look like a man, why would she even post a picture like this when I look that terrible! And I was amazed at how that made me feel. I’m a 50-year-old woman and I know who I am, and still my feelings got hurt. I was sad that people couldn’t see the point of it, the sweetness of it, the absolute shining joy of that photo. I thought, “What if I was 15?”'
It’s hard to believe anyone would have anything negative to say about the effervescent Julia Roberts particularly as she is chosen to be the cover star of the “Daring fashion. Risk Takers & Style makers” issue.
What we love most about the story though is that famous Julia Roberts smile, the most fashionable thing about her in our opinion!
