Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly,” said a statement released by Aniston's publicist to the Associated Press on Friday February 16.
"They had been living separately for the last several months," a source told E! News following the announcement. "He has been in New York the last several weeks getting on with his life. He flew back to L.A. late on Valentine's Day and met up with Jen at a mutually-decided-on location."
"He very much wanted to release a statement so that he doesn't have to hide or live a lie," the source said. "He wants to move on with his life and be out in the open."
Theroux has been residing in New York, filming a new television series with Reese Witherspoon, and staring in the upcoming film, The Spy Who Dumped Me. On the other hand, Aniston is based in Los Angeles, most recently she celebrated her 49th birthday with her closest girlfriends.
“Justin often spends a few days in NYC by himself. When he is in NYC, Jen will catch up with friends and enjoys her own life,” a source told People.
Another added, “They love and respect each other and do spend a lot of time apart. For them, it is a healthy part of their romance. By not spending every minute together, it’s like their honeymoon is lasting longer.”
The former couple is yet to personally comment on the reasons behind their break-up.
