Visiting the Strand campus of King’s College in London together, the duo shared a car – and a blue blanket to stave off the cold, despite moderate weather in the British capital. It was a cosy touch that has sparked a lot of positive buzz from royal fans online.
'It's the cutest thing ever,' wrote one fan on Twitter, with another voicing the mood of the moment by noting, 'I don't know why I love this so much but I do.'
Adding credence to the claim that ‘Queens don’t slide’, the monarch was seen getting into the car first, but notably took the seat closest to the door. Kate took the farther seat.

The moment has inspired comparisons to the 2001 movie The Princess Diaries, when Mia (Anne Hathaway) asks Queen Clarisse (Julie Andrews) if she’d like to 'slide in first' – to which she replies, 'I never slide.'
In a further act of deference to the Queen, Kate eschewed a hat at the event – which royal watchers say was more about protocol than a personal style choice.
