Kim then went into some of the work she’s done in recent years with inmates who have been sentenced to die, including the case of Brandon Bernard, who was sentenced to death despite Kim’s best efforts.
“I got to know him pretty well in his last few days,” she admitted.
“I posted this all on social media because he really wanted me to share his story.
“Sometimes, we’re able to stop it, and sometimes we’re not,” she said.
Viewers then got to see Kim speaking to Brandon on his last call before he was executed.
“I couldn’t hold it in, and the fact that he was calming me down from crying really broke my heart,” she said.
“He was executed, we weren’t able to stop it. But this is why I do what I do, because the system is so broken.
“I think my goal is just sharing the process, so that people can see what our system is really like and how inhumane the death penalty really is.
“I have to fight harder to make sure that this doesn’t happen to someone else.”
Kim’s focus on the law has been a focal point of the new season of The Kardashians, which is the first season the family have done with Hulu.
It has followed all the sisters in their endeavours over the last few months, including Kourtney Kardashian’s engagement to Travis Barker, Kylie Jenner’s pregnancy, and Khloé Kardashian’s complicated relationship with Tristan Thompson, with whom she shares a daughter, True Thompson.
The first six episodes are available to stream now on Disney Plus.
