Coppola and Dunst’s costars Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning and Colin Farrell were quick to come to the rescue, all smiles as they comforted the star, who stunned in a Grecian-style gown.
The good news? Dunst definitely has something to smile about — critics are singing high praise about the deliciously dark, Southern Gothic flair of The Beguiled, Coppola’s adaption of the 1966 Thomas Cullinan novel.
The film stars Kidman as the headmistress of a women’s boarding school in 1864 Virginia at the height of the Civil War. Dunst plays Edwina, a teacher, and Fanning, a teenage student named Alicia. The school has remained largely untouched by the war, but the girls’ seclusion is interrupted by the discovery of a wounded soldier from the Union Army (Farrell).
