Leonardo DiCaprio finally addresses that controversial Titanic door scene

Surely two people could have fit?! - by Nadia Elshawarby

It’s been 22 years since its release, but fans are STILL debating the now infamous door scene at the end of Titanic.

And who better to ask than the star of the hit movie himself, Leonardo DiCaprio.

Leo, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie joined MTV News to discuss their latest flick Once Upon a Time in Hollywood when the interviewer couldn’t resist quizzing Leo on “the biggest movie controversy of all time.”

Of course, we all remember the heartbreaking scene towards the end of the blockbuster when Leo’s character, Jack was forced to remain in the freezing waters of the North Atlantic Ocean as love interest Rose (Kate Winslet) remained atop a floating door.

It's been 22 years since Titanic was released.

However, could Jack have fit alongside Rose instead of eventually dying? - that’s the question everyone wants to know.

“That is the biggest controversy in modern cinema,” teased Margot.

“Could you, could you have squeezed in there? You could’ve, couldn’t you?” Brad probed, to which Leo disappointingly replied: “no comment.”

“Did you mention it at the time? Were you like, ‘Should we make the door smaller — ” Margot continued, before Leo shut down the interrogation with: “Like I said, I have no comment,”

Although The Wolf of Wall Street refused to divulge his thoughts, director James Cameron has previously spoken out about the famous scene.

“The film is about death and separation; he had to die,” the Oscar-winning director told Vanity Fair in 2017. “So whether it was that, or whether a smoke stack fell on him, he was going down. It’s called art, things happen for artistic reasons, not for physics reasons.”

We still think Jack could have fit on that door…
