"Their families have urged them to take some time to breathe before they make any final decisions," an insider told E! News. "They are both upset about how this has blown up and are both hurting right now."
At the time, the source also claimed: "Neither Miley or Liam have decided when they are going to take the next step of filing for divorce because there is a chance of reconciliation".
Clearly, that's no longer the case!
In the wake of their messy split, a representative for Miley, 26, and Liam, 29, claimed that the pair "still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals". However, since then, an insider has revealed the pop star and Australian actor are locked in a bitter custody feud over who will care for their seven dogs, two mini horses, two regular-sized horses, two pigs and three cats full time.
While the separated stars initially told their pals they hoped to "co-parent" their furry friends, the insider revealed to Radar Online that "everyone knows that’s not possible".
“Miley thinks these animals are all hers, but Liam also adopted two of the dogs on his own,” the source dished, referring to Liam's pitbull Tani and mix Dora. "Miley wants to raise them together. She doesn’t think it would be okay to separate them.”
While the anonymous source said The Isn't It Romantic star— who saved their 16 pets from the California wildfires that destroyed their Malibu home earlier this year— is still coming to terms with their divorce, the "Wrecking Ball" songstress is far more focused on their animals.
“She seems to be more concerned about the pets than Liam right now,” they said.
As for why they split, a source close to the A-listers said it was Liam's excessive partying habits that spelled the end of their relationship. These claims were also supported by TMZ, with sources on the singer's side saying Liam's alleged "drinking" and "drug use" damaged their relationship.
Another spy said the "Can't Be Tamed" singer also told the outlet that Liam's "super easygoing" public image is just that, an image. It's been said Liam was "super moody" and, in difficult times, took his frustrations out on Miley.
“Everyone always thinks Miley is problematic and immature and a hardcore partier while he’s this chill surfer dude, but that’s actually [not accurate],” a source also told PEOPLE. “Liam parties with his friends and Miley thinks he should’ve grown out of that by now.”
Since these allegations made headlines, a representative from Liam'scamp hit back, claiming Miley's friends are intentionally using this as a coverup so the attention is taken away from supposed "infidelity" on the "Wrecking Ball" singer's behalf.
