Following suit with the ‘no makeup’ makeup trend, the beauty world is continuing to embrace fresh-faced features, freckles and all.
From the runway at Paris Fashion Week, where the Emanuel Ungaro show saw models walk with youthful freckles enhanced with different shades of eyebrow pencils, to Kylie Jenner’s recent Instaposts sans-makeup, we’re on board for embracing this fresh approach to summer skin.
After years of trying to hide small imperfections on the face we’re now encouraged to enhance and even highlight these spots. Why? Showing freckles creates a youthful appearance (and may even take a few years off), so instead of masking them, embrace them—or start penciling.
Kylie Jenner posted a few pics recently, showing off her (previously unseen) freckles. Embracing her natural looks, she posted on snapchat, “When everyone’s drawing on freckles but ur always covering yours.”
Makeup maestro, Napoleon Perdis sheds some light on how to achieve this look with a realistic finish.
“To nail the fake freckle look think natural, subtle and believable. To start with make sure your products are matte. Any shimmer will look distracting and can catch on open pores and spots, emphasising their size.” Says Perdis. “Instead, use a very thin eye liner brush with a matte eyeshadow or matte gel eyeliner.
“If you have a pale complexion try using a taupe/sand coloured product,” says Perdis.
“For those with olive skin should try a mousy brown shade and those with deeper skin tones try a dark chocolate brown.”
“For subtle results apply to spots where you would naturally freckle, or where the sun hits your face. In most cases this means the nose, apples of the cheeks, forehead and even the chin. Tap on a small amount of product onto your brush and lightly apply to your face. Don’t worry about creating a perfect circle shape as the beauty of freckles is that each spot is different in shape and size” adds Perdis.
