It wouldn’t be an awards show without a major hair change, and Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams is kicking off the 2016 Emmy Awards with a bang — blunt bangs, to be exact.

The 19-year-old actress showed off some fresh fringe, which is faux, according to Williams’ hairstylist, Ryan Richman, who told WHO about the star’s “fun, edgy approach to the red carpet.”

“I used a bang piece that I heavily texturised for an edgy, young look,” Richman tells WHO. He teamed the bangs with a tiny topknot and show-stopping green eye shadow for the award show.

Inspired by Williams’ vibrant dress, Richman collaborated with the star to create the textured bun and bang combo.

“Maisie was wearing a high neck dress with a floral appliquéd bodice,” says Richman. “I definitely wanted the hair up in very young fun way. It’s important to me that younger clients on a major red carpet look their age.”

From there, Richman created four “pie-shaped” sections of hair and blew them out (using a mixed bristle oval brush) in an upward direction, toward the top of the head. He then secured each section with clips “tight against the scalp with ends pointed towards the crown of the head.”

Richman then released the clips, sprayed Hairspray throughout the hair and then brushed Williams’ tresses to the highest point of her head and pulled it into a sky-high ponytail. Pro tip: Spray hairspray onto your brush before you style into a ponytail or topknot to tame flyaways while you brush, says Richman!

And to wrap up the look, the pro spritzed the pony with dry shampoo and then back-combed it to “absorb oil and add fullness.” Richman twisted the tail into a topknot, leaving a few pieces out and secured with pins.

The finishing touch? A bangin’ hair piece, which was clipped into the front of the style for added texture.
