Meghan Markle’s makeup artist predicts her wedding day beauty

Meghan’s former makeup artist and ICONIC London ambassador, Lydia Sellers shares the products the royal beauty loves and lends her insights on what the princess will wear.

Can you describe Meghan’s skin?

Meghan’s skin, quite simply, is flawless. It is hydrated and taut, lacking any problem areas. Once prepped, it is truly the perfect canvas for makeup.

How does she like her make-up to look?

She loves a classic, sultry, ‘subdued glam’ look. I love the classic look Meghan goes for; earthy-toned smoky eyes, a beautiful glow and blushing cheeks, with a nudey-pink tone on her lip. I think she will stay in this vein for her wedding makeup and not venture too far from her classic, gorgeous look.

You’ve worked with Meghan for a while – has her look changed over the years?

Meghan’s look has mostly remained the same over the course of the time I have worked with her. If anything, we have gone slightly more bronze on the eyes (from brown to bronze) but, other than that, we have stayed the course!

Does she like make-up? Is she a beauty girl?

Meghan is an ‘everything’ girl! She had a lifestyle blog, The Tig, and I think she is someone who likes to learn a little bit about everything, from letter writing (she was a Calligrapher early on), to fashion and beauty. She is always in the know about the chicest new brands and generally always had something new she loved when we worked together.

Does Meghan experiment with beauty or does she prefer to stick to a classic look?

She mostly likes to stick to a classic look, with the occasional experimentation of a new lip color but, most often stays in the realm of her signature classic look – because it works!

Do you think this is the look she will go to for her wedding and why?

Yes, I think she is a classic, chic beauty that will stick to a look she is confident in, that has worked for her time and time again. It is a look that works beautifully for her and has become her signature beauty style. I don’t foresee her stepping outside the box on a day that will be remembered forever and a day she wants to feel like the best version of herself.

Which features should she play up/highlight?

Meghan has the most beautiful dark eyes. I think enhancing them with complimenting earthy tones (as she does) is the way to go! Using products with a bronze tint to them is best to make the eyes really pop. She also has the most beautiful face structure so adding a pop of highlight to her high cheekbones definitely enhances that as well.

What would you use on her if you wanted to create the ultimate glow?

Since I’ve been trying the Iconic London Prep-Set-Glow, (available in Australia in June), I would definitely mix a little of that into her foundation to really get that lit-from-within glow.

Any tips for maintaining a flawless complexion throughout the day?

A flawless complexion throughout the day starts with a good base. I think exfoliating is underrated and should be done more often by all. It creates a canvas for your makeup to sit beautifully on without a barrier of dead skin on the surface, which causes makeup to slip off or become absorbed. I also think a great face mist like the Prep Set Glow Hydrating Mist is a great way to refresh the skin every few hours and somewhat re-activate your makeup for a fresh glow!

How can a bride make a glow last all day?

A Beautyblender is always in my kit. Using a brush to apply directly to the skin first and then going in with a damp beauty blender or buffing brush to blend is key!

Which eras or beauty icons should she look to for inspiration?

I think she could identify with the beauty looks from the 70’s the most. The sun-kissed, bronzed skin, earth-toned eyes with a lot of lash, and light pinks or peach on the lips. It was the era of bouncy, glossy, long hair and subdued classic beauties. I think Meghan could look to 1970’s Ali McGraw for inspiration and even resembles her slightly with her glowing skin, rich, glossy chocolate hair, and bold but, natural brows.
