Just like fashion trends, makeup trends come and go. This year, alternatives to contouring such as draping and non-touring, and highlighting techniques like strobing have been huge.

If like us you’ve been pondering which makeup trends and techniques will be taking the beauty world by storm next year, then ponder no more. Polyvore have released their yearly fashion and beauty survey, which revealed a slew of ‘best-ofs,’ including the world’s most loved beauty brand and most popular beauty product.

The two big winners? MAC Cosmetics and nude makeup.

Yep! Despite makeup brands such as Kylie Cosmetics, Urban Decay and Too Faced releasing numerous new products and collections this year (just think of all the Lip Kits, Naked nude makeup releases and eyeshadow palettes we’ve seen), MAC continues to take the top place.

When it comes to the top-ranked beauty product of the year, nude lipstick won out, beating waterproof eyeliner, matte cream eyeshadow, acrylic nails and cream blush to take the top position. According to Polyvore, searches for the shade increased 553 per cent when compared to last year with the most popular finish being matte, which increased in searches by 267 per cent.

Perhaps what these findings reveal the most is that while MAC is still a crowd favourite, Kylie Jenner (through her makeup brand Kylie Cosmetics) has made a strong impact on the beauty industry with her penchant for nude shades and matte lip finishes. We have a feeling we’ll continue to see even more nude makeup inspo and products in 2017.

If you’re looking to wholeheartedly embrace Polyvore’s findings and jump on the nude lipstick bandwagon, check out the best nude lipsticks that flatter every skin tone.
