The Cardigan Is Taking Centre Stage This Season And We Know Where To Find The Best of The Best

Knit happens.

As the seasons change one of our very favourite rituals is keeping an eye out for the latest trends and pieces to add to our wardrobes.

Now a cardigan is a truly timeless piece and for the past few years, we’ve been seeing them pop up as chunky, oversized silhouettes à la Mr Harry Styles. However, as of late we’re seeing the sartorial set embracing a more tailored approach to the classic cardi, mirroring the refined styles seen on the runways of Miu Miu and Prada.

The cardi is one of those quintessential trans-seasonal pieces that we can take with us from summer to autumn, all the way through to winter and back around to spring – meaning they’re a pretty worthy wardrobe investment.

Wear them on the everyday styled with a perfectly fitting white tee and your favourite trousers or dress them up for a night at the bar with some straight-leg jeans, your favourite heels and just a bralette underneath. Or you could lean into the current Office Siren aesthetic that is dominating TikTok with a pencil skirt and some micro glasses – tres chic.

If you’re wanting to dip your toes into the cardigan look but are not sure where to start the search, below we’re taking a look at some of our favourite cardigans on the market that will be making our way into our wardrobe. Consider this our carefully curated knit list.

What length of cardigan is most flattering?

The most flattering cardigan length can vary depending on body shape, personal style, and the desired look. Generally, mid-length cardigans that hit at the hip are universally flattering, creating a balanced silhouette and pairing well with dresses, skirts, or jeans. Long cardigans that reach the knee or longer can elongate the body, giving a taller appearance and a sleek, streamlined look, making them ideal for pairing with skinny jeans or leggings. On the other hand, short cardigans, such as those that are waist-length or cropped, are excellent for defining the waist and creating an hourglass figure, especially when worn with high-waisted pants or skirts. Ultimately, the most flattering cardigan length is one that complements your body shape and makes you feel confident and comfortable.

What cardigan should I wear with a dress?

When choosing a cardigan to wear with a dress, consider the dress style, occasion, and your personal preferences. A cropped or waist-length cardigan is an excellent choice for most dresses, as it defines the waist and maintains the dress’s shape. For a polished and elegant look, pair a fitted, lightweight cardigan with a formal dress. If you’re aiming for a casual and relaxed vibe, a long, open-front cardigan can add a touch of coziness and style. Alternatively, a belted cardigan can create a flattering silhouette by accentuating the waist, making it a versatile option for both casual and semi-formal dresses. Ultimately, select a cardigan that complements the dress’s color, pattern, and fabric to create a cohesive and stylish outfit.
