Whilst fans were patiently waiting to see what she would wear to the 2024 Met Gala, it seems Blake Lively won’t be walking the steps of the Met this year.

Although we don’t yet know why she skipped the event, the Gossip Girl alum has had a very busy few months which has included filming A Simple Favour 2 in Italy.

In 2022 Blake co-hosted her first ball, alongside her husband, Ryan Reynolds, and Hollywood heavyweights Regina King and Lin Manuel-Miranda.

With the theme of “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” and dress code of “Gilded Glamour and White Tie,” the blonde beauty was sure to be among the best dressed in attendance as she worked with Versace to create an incredible look for the occasion. And she certainly delivered.

Blake wore a custom Atelier Versace gown that paid homage to New York City, specifically the architecture of the Empire State Building, Grand Central Station and the Statue of Liberty.

Her gown even came undone to transform from a striking copper colour to the signature green of the iconic NYC statue – just as it did in real life. According to the New York Times, the colours are said to represent the Statue of Liberty oxidising from copper to green.

In the past, Blake has worn extravagant creations by Gucci, Burberry and Versace for the illustrious occasion.

Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy (2008)

As her career took off thanks to Gossip Girl and Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, Blake attended her first Met Gala in a striking black gown from Ralph Lauren’s 40th-anniversary collection.

Her first dress kicked off a long-standing love affair with extravagant trains and feathers – though, it wasn’t quite as “on-theme” as her later looks. We suppose extreme star power might have something to do with how she managed to better pull off the dress code as the years went on.

The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion (2009)

What can we say – the girl looks good in blue! And she proved it in a free-flowing Versace gown with a thigh-high slit. We’d like to think this colour choice had something to do with Miranda Priestley’s cerulean monologue in The Devil Wears Prada a few years earlier.

Blake wore her first (and last) Met Gala mini dress in 2010, rocking an embellished Marchesa frock that turned heads. It was very Serena van der Woodsen of her.

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty (2011)

By this stage in her career, Blake had become known for her stylish red carpet appearances and had recently been signed to Chanel as an ambassador. Attending on the arm of the late Karl Lagerfeld, the star wowed in an embellished “naked dress” by the French fashion house.

Punk: Chaos to Couture (2013)

In Gucci, Blake put her own “all-American girl” spin on punk. While stars like Sienna Miller and Cara Delevingne opted for studs and leather, the actress chose a subtle tribute to the theme with a black feathered train that crept up the structured bodice.

Charles James: Beyond Fashion (2014)

The first time Blake attended with Ryan, the couple were the epitome of old Hollywood glamour. Which also meant they’d absolutely nailed the theme. And on a night when, for once, most stars seemed to fit the dress code it was impressive that Blake managed to stand out in her glittering Gucci gown.

Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology (2016)

Blake worked closely with Burberry to design her iconic pink gown and floral cape, which is one of her greatest stand-out looks from The Met Gala.

While the delicate gown stood in contrast to the likes of Claire Danes in an illuminated dress or Zayn Malik wearing a silver “robotic” arm, it was still ridiculously pretty and a 10/10 for most fans.

Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between (2017)

This theme was one of the clear dividers among attendees, with it becoming painfully obvious which stars did and didn’t nail the dress code. While Rihanna was a clear winner in a statement floral frock by Rei Kawakubo, Blake was up there on all the “best dressed” lists thanks to her golden Versace gown with a statement electric blue feathered train.

Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination (2018)

After years of amazing gowns (and the on-again-off-again following of the theme), Blake wore her best dress yet at the Met Gala in 2018.

Her crimson Versace gown was a show-stopper in every sense, with the bodice taking more than 600 hours to bead, and the flowing train requiring her to take a party bus to the museum. Not to mention her golden halo and extravagant jewels. This was THE look. Here’s hoping she can pull another one out in 2022 when she returns to the red carpet.
