Long gone are the days of plain sterling silver studs and single-lobe piercings of our childhood, there’s now an abundance of piercing placements and earring trends to choose from.

Just like beauty and fashion trends, piercing styles evolve. And the work that goes into creating a personalised stack requires thoughtful attention to detail (just take note from our favourite celebs and their stylish lobes.)

From classic stud piercings to statement-worthy helix hoops, we spoke to Justine Lançon, Mejuri’s Chief Creative Officer to find out which piercing trends are currently taking over.

Ear Constellations

“Constellation piercings are a curated arrangement of multiple ear piercings that resemble a star constellation,” explains Justine, Mejuri’s Chief Creative Officer.

“This typically involves placing several studs or hoops in various locations on the ear—like the lobe, cartilage, and helix—to create a unique and personalised look,” she explains.

While constellations aren’t necessarily a new trend, its popularity has significantly grown in recent months and has become a go-to look for many celebs who love to chop and change their lobe looks.

Try mixing metals and sizes to really curate a look that is individual to you.

Upper Lobe

“Piercing to create the perfect stack has been trending throughout 2024, and we expect ear stacking to continue its popularity far into 2025,” says Justine.

“Lobe piercings and upper lobe piercings are the most popular place to start.”

Rather than a traditional second (or even third) work your way up the lobe to create a different amount of space between each piercing. Adorn your ears with hoops or studs right the way up until you reach your cartilage.

Helix

Head further up the ear and into your cartilage. Traditionally the helix piercing is located on the outer upper cartilage, but there are also variations, including forward, backward, double, or even triple helix piercings.

“The helix taking the next most popular spot for Mejuri customers to experiment with a new look and different types of earring styles,” says Justine.

A popular placement for a huggie hoop, it’s a great opportunity to choose something sparkly or statement-worthy.

Personalised Studs

There’s also been a rise in personalised studs. “One of the current best-selling studs that truly elevates any ear stack is the Diamond Droplet Stud. Its playful design and sparkling brilliance make it a standout piece, effortlessly complementing a wide variety of hoops and other studs,” Justine explains.

Post-appointment Care

“Piercing healing times vary by location,” says Justine. “Lobe piercings heal in 3 to 6 months, while cartilage takes 6 to 12 months, but note that everyone heals differently.”

To nail your aftercare, follow Mejuri’s four simple steps.

1. Always wash your hands before touching or cleaning your piercing, and keep your jewellery in until fully healed.

2. For best healing results, we recommend using a Sterile Saline Spray up to twice a day. We also highly encourage cleaning your piercing in the shower, and gently rinsing with warm water.

3. Avoid touching, turning, or spinning your jewellery, as this can cause bacterial infections, micro-tears, or keloids. Only handle your piercing during cleaning, such as when showering.

4. Be mindful of your piercing when changing clothes, tucking your hair behind your ears, or any repetitive movements. Friction or bacteria from unwashed hands can irritate the area and slow healing.
