However, if you’re looking at your clothes without a clue what to wear this season, then you’ve come to the right article.

WATCH: GANNI Spring/Summer 24 Runway Show

Trends come and go, much like seasons themselves, and although we advocate wearing what you want as opposed to following what the sartorial style set are donning – sometimes you’re just in need of a little inspo.

We spoke with THE OUTNET‘s Style Director, Sinead Cutts, on the hottest spring trends to look out for and how to nail them.

“This spring is all about mixing unexpected trends,” Sinead told Who

“Layering diaphanous layers also gives a feeling of freshness; whether the top tier is sheer lace, crochet or stretch lurex, playing with the different layers and pieces worn underneath feels very new for spring.”

Below we’re taking a look at some of our favourite spring trends that we will be embracing this season, as well as some top picks to shop.

The Spring 2023 fashion trends to watch

Abstract Florals

As opposed to your traditional garden party variety florals you’re used to seeing this spring, opt for something that adds a point of difference to your wardrobe like abstract, distorted floral prints.

You can still lean into all that blossoms and blooms but open your options to something a little out of the ordinary.

Sheer perfection

Watch out for sheer fabrics such as lace and mesh this spring that leave little to the imagination – in the best way. If you are after more coverage, you can layer sheer tops and skirts with t-shirts or hot pants, or go full-throttle sheer for a racy, bold event look.

“I love the [sheer] trend worn with an edge,” Sinead told Who. “Think maxi length, sheer lace skirt, Mary-jane pumps and socks worn with a football jersey or logo tee.”

Bloke-core

A trend you may not have heard of, this once niche aesthetic has become a staple in the wardrobes of the fashion forward. Take a sporty approach to your dressing, or juxtapose it with more feminine accessories like bows and pigtails like the Blokette trend.

“… There is definitely a 90’s soccer trend revival: striped soccer shirts, baggy ‘jorts’ all worn in a subversive and playful way. Mixing it up with feminine frills like a lace-up top or corset and always sunglasses on the head,” says Sinead.

“I’d describe this look as Brit Pop London in the mid-90s. Being a child of the 90s, I’m always super nostalgic about this era and always look to the band Shampoo, Damon Albarn, Kate Moss and Patsy Kensit in their heyday for inspiration.”

Continue the support for the Tillies with a jersey, throw on a pair of baggy shorts and hit the streets ready for whatever spring may throw at you.

Form and function

Expect to see the utility style of dressing we saw in winter into spring this year. With military-inspired additions to clothes like belting and buckles, as well as pragmatic silhouettes that offer some coverage on cooler days – think bomber jackets, cargo style pants and thick materials as you shop this style.

Embrace the length

As much as we have loved the micro-shorts and skirts as of late, this spring hemlines are being let out and we are looking for longer silhouettes from our wardrobe. Try out the ever-controversial jort trend or stick to midi and maxi skirts that feel very Euro-summer if you ask us.

“In terms of skirt lengths, maxis are most definitely back for spring. They feel cool and effortless this season,” says Sinead.

Not sure how to style it? Sinead suggests to try “wear a cargo style skirt with a white tank and retro Adidas sneakers or a sheer maxi with loafers or Mary-janes and socks for an edgier take on the length.”

“The fringed maxi skirt also feels very fresh this season, teamed with a big shoulder blazer and kitten heels as a ‘Power dressing’ play on proportions.”

The bigger the bag, the better

Gone are the days of microbags and having to leave your essentials behind, because bigger shoulder bags and totes are an accessory trend to watch this season. Stylish and reminiscent of those enormous purses Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian toted around to clubs in the early aughts (those were the days), these bags fit everything but the kitchen sink.
