Promoting skin elasticity and protection from sun-damage.

Health and beauty trends are always evolving, especially as new developments come to light within these industries.

According to recent findings by The Future Laboratory, there are two ingredients that are set to be trending this year in skincare – chlorella and caffeine.

Chorella

An algae-based ingredient, chlorella is filled with nourishing vitamins and minerals. It aids in diminishing skin redness and promotes keratin growth in hair!

According to this article, “There are phytonutrients in chlorella as well that strengthen hair follicles and boost scalp circulation” and “the natural sulfur in chlorella leads to stronger, longer and shinier hair.”

The effects are also great for your skin and worth noting that they assist in the protection from sun damage due to its antioxidant properties (something that is imperative in our beauty routines as the Australian sunlight is so harsh).

This superfood ingredient also promotes cell rejuvenation. The same article further states that “Chlorella possesses certain extracts that improve the production of the skin’s collagen. Several clinical tests show that just a 1-percent concentration of chlorella increases the skin’s firmness and tone after just 48 hours of use.”

Caffeine hydration

It has been touted as a “rising star in hydration”, and now, a study by the Estée Lauder Companies research and development team has found that: “when applied topically, caffeine boosts skin hydration significantly

A recent article by Refinery 29 states, “Dr Tom Mammone, vice president of skin physiology and pharmacology for Clinique research and development worldwide, breaks it down. “While I’m not sure what drinking caffeine will do to skin, in my experience of using caffeine topically we have seen cosmetic benefits. Putting it on topically increases moisturisation by increasing the energy of skin.”

The article also cites another quote about the benefits of caffeine hydration for your skin, “It helps to protect the skin from free radicals that are known to accelerate skin damage and produce lines, wrinkles and sun spots. This makes it a great ingredient to help slow down any future skin damage.”
