With five couples officially together at the end of the first episode, it’ll only be a matter of time before new contestants and wandering eyes lead to couple-swapping, because that’s the whole point of Love Island.
Well, “the point” is to “find true love” and win $50,000 - but also, the real point is to couple-swap, look cute on a bean bag chair, drink out of a branded water bottle and ask people if they’re free for a chat.
In Episode One, the women arrived at the Love Island Villa first. One by one the guys would walk in, with the ladies stepping forward if they were interested, giving each guy the chance to pick his partner from the group.
At the end of the first episode, there was a relative sense of peace amongst the couples… for a few minutes. But we predict chaos will ensue in the coming days.
In the meantime, get to know the current couples of Love Island Australia 2021. But be sure to check back in, as the love-matches will likely change as the season plays on.
COURTNEY & AARON
The first couple to be formed on Season Three - and one of the only to make it through the initial couple-up round without being swapped - Courtney and Aaron could have been the early favourites. But it's unlikely.
“Being 24, I can date 20-year-olds or 28-year-olds, I’m in that sweet spot, it’s perfect. I’m a mature head on a very young, attractive body. I’m husband material,” Aaron said in the premiere.
The confident 24-year-old caught Courtney's eye immediately, with the brunette beauty stepping forward for him in the first round of arrivals. Will they go the distance?
Honestly, probably not. In a tense game of Never Have I Ever, Aaron revealed he finds Jess to be the 'most attractive' person in the villa. Not, you know, his partner Courtney. He also told Tina that he wants to "chat to everyone," while Courtney approached Tina's partner Ronni. Fair enough, but also big yikes energy for this specific match on Day One.
RYAN & LEXY
Just yesterday, it was Ryan and Ari, but when Lexy was forced to choose someone to couple-up with, she decided to go with Ryan, saying she liked his sense of humour and didn't think their personalities would clash.
After going on a date with Ryan, Lexy felt like she wanted to get to know him more. She also mentioned he was 'hot as hell'.
Lexy is supposedly more Ryan's 'type' than Ari, whom he chose to deliberately go against his type.
While Ari is now on the outs, things move very fast in the villa, and we're sure she'll be back in the game in no time!
TAKU & RACHAEL
While Taku and Ari were initially matched up, she later stepped up for Ryan, leaving Taku single at the end of the couple-up. Rachael was also the last one standing of the girls, having not been picked when she stepped forward for Ryan and Jordan.
In the first few episodes there are bound to be 'couples' who end up together despite not really vibing. Finding common ground in Episode One, Taku and Rachael at least seem to be taking it in their stride. While they may not be falling head over heels, it could work out in their favour as they wait on the sidelines.
The chemistry between Taku and Ari is still clear - after matching with Ryan, she told Taku she would be happy to be in a couple with him - while Rachael and Jordan shared a kiss even though he was coupled up with Jess. WATCH. THIS. SPACE.
JESS & JORDAN
The J&J duo were too good to last, with Jordan stealing a kiss from Rachael shortly after he had matched with Jess, as we mentioned above.
It doesn't help that they were already on shaky ground after their initial chat, with Jess doubting Jordan's intentions based on his comments about "loyalty."
"He made out with someone behind my back, I'm done with him," Jess told the cameras after the controversial kiss.
Stuck in limbo-land, we'll see how they fare in Episode Two.
TINA & RONNI
Last, but certainly not least, Tina and Ronni are the final 'couple' of the moment.
When Ari and Tina both stepped out upon his arrival, Ronni chose Tina, telling her: "you look even better close up." And while they seem to be vibing, it's also clear they're not 100% in this together yet.
They could be on for a full couple-swap here, with another duo, Aaron and Courtney, seeking them out for the all-important 'chat'. These convos all took place separately, of course, it wasn't like some big group couple's therapy session hosted by Sophie Monk. But it was very intriguing.
Unsure if she's more interested in Ronni or Aaron, Tina has some major dream journaling to do in Episode Two.
Left on the outs after 'bomb' Lexy chose to couple up with her partner, Ryan, Ari is now single, and received a text to remind her of it.
"Ari, you are now single. Being single leaves you vulnerable. #allbymyself #getgrafting," it read.
Will someone come along to save Ari from her single status?
