Kelly, whose real name is Colson Baker, went as far as putting a shotgun in his mouth while Megan was on the other end of the phone.
“I called Megan. I was like, ‘You aren’t here for me.’ I’m in my room and I’m, like, freaking out on her,” he admitted.
“Dude, I put the shotgun in my mouth. And I’m yelling on the phone and like the barrel’s in my mouth.
“And I go to cock the shotgun and the bullet, as it comes back up, the shell just gets jammed. Megan is like dead silent.”
The incident helped Kelly realise he had to kick his drug habits and get his life together, with the help of his daughter, Cassie, and Megan too.
Cassie was born to Kelly and his then-partner Emma Cannon in July 2009, and the two now co-parent together.
While he kept his relationship with his daughter private for a long time, she’s beginning to make more appearances on his social media. Kelly has also compared her to what he was like as a kid.
“I have such a rule-abiding, amazing daughter and I was such a rule-breaking, s----y son,” he told GQ.
Kelly’s antics as a teen created a rift between himself and his father, who kicked him out of the house. The pair reconciled in 2019, but his 2020 death was deeply painful for Kelly, who began to seek help with his mental health after the suicide attempt.
Life in Pink tells the story of Kelly’s rise to success as one of “this generation’s most polarizing rockstars”.
A Hulu production, it’s available to stream in Australia on Disney Plus.
