Last night’s episode of Married At First Sight revealed that Jon had been texting contestant Scarlett behind his bride Cheryl’s back.
The pair exchanged numbers at the dinner party which all MAFS couples attended.
“We ended up getting along really well and I ended up getting her number at the end and we've just been talking about our experiences thus far,” said Jon.
“I feel like I have a better connection with her than Cheryl... we should have been matched. We would have been cute as s**t. Can we swap? Is that a thing?”
Just moments before the commitment ceremony, where each half of the couple reveal if they want to stay in the marriage, Cheryl discovered Jonathan and Scarlett had been texting.
“I just found out that Jonathan is messaging another girl behind my back,” a devastated Cheryl said.
“I just think that’s so disrespectful. It makes me feel like s**t I wouldn’t do that to him.”
And although Jon wanted to give their marriage another try, Cheryl was ready to walk.
“I hate disloyal people. I heard you last night saying you got paired with the wrong person. And then you swapped numbers and you have been talking to each other,” she said.
“It makes me feel like s**t. I came in with an open heart. To hear that makes me feel like complete s**t. It’s a dog move. I'm so betrayed by you, both of you.”
Jon defended his actions and explained his connection with Scarlett was a “friendship thing”.
“We were at the dinner and obviously we weren’t getting along and once I was talking to somebody else there [Scarlett] we had very good conversation and so forth and then we exchanged numbers,” he said.
“It's more a friendship thing - we were connecting obviously, intellectually. We said if we were matched together there was so much we had in common.”
Scarlett and her husband Michael also decided not to continue with their marriage.
