It didn't take long though for sparks to fly.
"I was the ultimate single gal. The idea of relationships made me want to vomit. And then this crept up on me," Margot admitted to US Vogue.
"We were friends for so long. I was always in love with him, but I thought, 'Oh, he would never love me back. Don't make it weird, Margot. Don't be stupid and tell him that you like him.' And then it happened, and I was like, 'Of course we're together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.'”
Margot admitted to The Guardian that she and Tom kept their romance a secret from their housemates.
“Because we weren’t really taking it seriously. ‘Oh, whatever, we’re just mates, we’re just mates.’ And then everyone found out,” she said, adding, “Our house turned into The Jerry Springer Show for a moment there. But then the dust settled, and it was all good. Everyone was, like: ‘No! This is going to ruin our group!’ And then it didn’t. It was fine.”
It wasn't until April 2015 that they made their couple Instagram photo debut.
Captioning a black and white photo of himself and his then-girlfriend, Tom wrote the hashtag "#Igotdrunkandshegotlucky."
In 2016, the couple decided to make it official and married in a private ceremony in Byron Bay.
The bride wore a white boho-chic dress and uploaded a photo a photo of herself and her new husband sharing a kiss - her pear-shaped diamond ring in the foreground of the photo.
Tom also shared a snap from the wedding day of himself, dressed in a white T-shirt, sharing a kiss with his new wife.
"She's all that," he simply captioned the black and white candid photo.
The newlyweds then honeymooned in Tahiti but pushed their trip back because they were filming I, Tonya.
Since they became husband and wife, Margot and Tom have kept their personal life relatively out of the spotlight but have shared some sweet details over the years.
“Being married is actually the most fun ever, life got way more fun somehow,” Margot told PORTER in 2018. “I have a responsibility being someone’s wife, I want to be better.”
Despite their busy work schedules, however, the Suicide Squad star revealed that she and her husband make time for one another.
“Even if we both have to fly to a country in-between where we both are for one night, we’ll do it and then fly back to work the next day. And we speak all day, every day on the phone.”
Tom also has quite the sweet side as his wife described in an interview with On Demand Entertainment while promoting I, Tonya.
"When it comes to ice cream I am deadly serious and my husband knows not to mess around," the Oscar nominee revealed.
"One time I came home after being away for ages and he'd filled the entire freezer with all my favourite ice creams. It was the romantic thing, I was like 'You know me inside and out!'"
Though they're dog parents to their beloved pitbull Belle, kids aren't on the cards just yet.
“If I’m looking into my future 30 years from now, I want to see a big Christmas dinner with tons of kids there,” Margot said in 2018.
“But definitely not at the moment. That’s 100 per cent certain.”
These days, the Hollywood power couple reside in Los Angeles.
“We don’t get as much downtime as we’d probably like, but we both really like what we do,” she said in a February 2020 interview with The Project.
“We also have a lot of time to chill – actually that’s a lie we don’t have time to chill – but we have a lot of fun and we love what we do.”
WHO previously reported that Margot and her British husband are considering moving back to Australia as evidenced when in December, the Wolf of Wall Street star listed her stylish Hollywood Hills bungalow for almost $1.6 million – seemingly downsizing her Los Angeles property portfolio.
“It’s where I’m currently residing,” Robbie previously shared of her decision to buy property in the celeb hotspot, adding that it wasn’t her forever home.
“It’s difficult to grow roots here,” she continued. “I guess being married changed things.”
