Jonethen and Connie have been butting heads since day dot, with the bride's main concern being his intense usage of his phone. As we know, she was extremely triggered when he broke the "no phone rule" and often screamed at him for failing to make her a priority. However, it turns out there was actually a very sad reason why he was constantly checking his device.
"When that whole thing happened, my dad just had a stroke," Jonethen told Hit Mid North Coast's Krysti and Bodge. "A lot of the so-called "Instagramming" was just me contacting my brothers, contacting my mum. Being more involved in that."
Unfortunately, he failed to tell Connie about the situation, leading her to believe he was instead disinterested in spending quality time with her.
"And you can see, I'm kind of upset most days. I look reasonably rattled at my phone if you look back at the footage. It's mainly because I'm talking about some pretty heavy stuff. I wasn't really conveying [my situation] to Connie. I wasn't really telling her what I was doing. She was just seeing me on my phone."
In spite of this hurdle, Connie was able to move on and even admitted during last week's commitment ceremony that she was developing feelings for her man.
"I’m still confused. The only way I could describe it was that I miss him when he’s gone. I really do. Even if he’s just going to the gym. That’s gotta mean something," Connie told the experts while they assessed their romance.
"Even going to bed at night, I dunno. I’ve gotten so used to him, I can’t sleep if he’s not there. That’s gotta mean something. It has to."
Unfortunately, after home visits, he was more distant than ever.
"I don’t know what to say," he admitted, awkwardly. "My feelings towards Connie, I’m in a weird position, I feel. I think she’s beautiful. I think you’re funny, intelligent – she ticks a lot of my boxes, but I don’t feel that romantic spark. And I wonder how long I continue to force something, especially now I know you have feelings. I don’t what to give her false hope."
After she revealed she was "embarrassed" and questioned why she wrote "stay" while Jonethen wrote "leave", he dropped a bombshell.
"Weirdly, I was kind of hoping she’d write stay," Jonny said. "Because I know we’re going to her home stay, and it would be amazing to go there and something sparks, something connects."
Confused and shaking, Connie spoke up. "f you were feeling that little bit hopeful, then why would you write that?"
"Because right now, my feelings towards you have not changed," he said, confusing everyone even more.
So, yeah. That's where they stand right now.
