While many of the singles taking part in this year’s Married at First Sight experiment have avidly watched the reality series before, single mum Jo admits it’s not only her favourite show, she’s applied several times in the past hoping to find her Prince Charming.
“I’m a single mum and I just do not have time to date at all,” the 39-year old tells WHO of what prompted her to try her luck on the series. “I went on Married at First Sight so the three experts can get all of the awkwardness out of the way around finding the one and just give me the one basically.”
Having applied twice previously, she believes 2018 is the perfect time for her entry into the world of the reality TV experiment.
“My kids (Angus, 14, and Zara, 10) are really stable in their lives emotionally and physically, everything,” she says. “I’m just moving into my 40s so it’s a new decade, a new me, a new life – something completely different. When I got chosen I was very thrilled and thought, ‘This is me, this is what I’m supposed to do now.’”
With her kids firmly supporting her decision, Jo says she wasn’t nervous at all when she saw her groom, Sean D at the other end of the aisle.
And while viewers watched the 39-year-old publican admit he found a lack of chemistry with his new bride, Jo says she’s feeling optimistic the two can make it work. “My initial thought was he’s probably not someone I would have typically gone for but looks is not the first thing I look at in a person, it’s kind eyes and a great smile. So when he smiled I was like okay, he’s really lovely. I instantly felt calm around him.”
