The celebrity chef was being interviewed ahead of the launch of his new cookbook, More, when the discussion turned to his now infamous ‘disgustingly delicious’ line from season two of MasterChef.

The Project co-host Tommy Little brought up the incident, in which Matt famously dropped a plate on the ground to emphasise his praise of contestant Arron Harvie’s dish.

“How many plates did you smash? Did they make you do take, after take, after take?” Tommy quizzed.

“It’s Channel 10. One plate,” Matt quipped.

The entire panel, featuring Tommy, Carrie Bickmore, Waleed Aly, and Peter Helliar bust out laughing, with the latter adding: “He’s going swinging on the way out, isn’t he?”

Helliar’s comment was in reference to the recent announcement that Preston, as well as his former MasterChef co-star Gary Mehigan are jumping ship to Network Seven to front new cooking show Plate of Origin.

Tommy joked he’ll go over to ‘plate central’ and sort it out, before Matt made one final dig.
“No. I’m referencing [the network being] fiscally responsible,” Preston added.
Last month it was revealed that Preston, Mehigan and My Kitchen Rules’ Manu Feildel would head up Network Seven’s new show.

“Food superstars Matt Preston and Gary Mehigan join Manu Feildel for Plate of Origin, where we’re not just reaching every corner of Australia… We’re going BIGGER! Which cuisine will reign supreme in this worldwide food fight?” was the caption on the network’s official Facebook post.

The announcement came shortly after MasterChef bosses announced they had recruited three new judges to join the show; Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong and Andy Allen.
