Matthew Perry has revealed he has spent the past three months in hospital following surgery to repair a ruptured bowel.
The news comes following last month’s announcement that the former Friends star had undergone an operation in LA – a spokeswoman for the 49 year old said at the time that he was grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heals”.
On Friday, the actor tweeted to say he was still in hospital. It was his first tweet since March.
“Three months in a hospital bed. Check,” he wrote.
A punctured bowel — or gastrointestinal perforation — can occur along any point in the wall of the gastrointestinal tract, including the stomach, small intestine and large intestine.
Matthew has been open about his struggles with alcohol and Vicodin addiction in the past.
“You can’t have a drug problem for 30 years and then expect to have it be solved in 28 days,” Perry told The Hollywood Reporter in a video for Phoenix House, a California-based treatment centre where Perry received help.
