Our first clue is all in the spelling. In the captions of Meghan and Harry’s Instagram posts, they tend to stick to the American versions of certain words – like using “organization” rather than “organisation” to highlight to work of WellChild and Baby2Baby or “re-energized” instead of “re-energised” in a post to thank fans for donating to their chosen charities.
And then there’s this…
Meghan’s Americanisms aren’t just confined to spelling. Another giveaway that she’s running the account is her use of American words.
Meghan and Harry’s page noted that Los Angeles-based organization Baby2Baby “received over 5,000 products to disperse to children in need, including cribs, books, backpacks, diapers.”
But in England (and Australia), diapers are usually referred to as “nappies.”
She loves an emoji
Other royal accounts rarely use the fun icons, but as someone who knows her way around social media, Meghan’s been using them for years.
The first emoji on the @SussexRoyal came in its second post ever, using a camera emoji to credit a photographer at Harry’s visit to a YMCA. In addition, the post thanking fans for their charity donations and highlighting Baby2Baby ended with a red heart.
