Not even expected showers could stop Melburnians from rushing out for a chance to see the Duke and pregnant Duchess of Sussex.
The pair were spotted leaving Sydney, making their way down south for an intense day including a visit at reception at Government House, a meet and greet at the Royal Botanic Gardens, a Melbourne tram ride before ending their day at South Melbourne beach.
While most are quite excited to see the royals, there has been one man who has been arrested right outside Government House.
The pair were held back thanks to the weather and a car accident causing bumper-to-bumper traffic but at around 11:30am the Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived.
The Duchess, 37, donned a Dion Lee dress and her Martin Grant trench.
The Duke, who rocked a dark suit, made instant friends with three-month-old William Garcia.
Crowds screamed for them as they greeted well-wishers and were handed toys and flowers.
Members of the crowd also started singing Stand By Me, which was performed at Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May.
Courtney Pistone, 10, gave Meghan a bear for the new baby.
She said: “I gave it to her for the nursery. I thought it would be suitable because we didn’t know if it was a boy or a girl and both boys and girls like bears.”
The parents-to-be stopped to play with five-and-a-half-month-old Harriet Bonaddido and chatted with her mother Jessica.
The 28-year-old said: “As soon as I introduced my daughter to Harry he said ‘that’s a great name’.
“Maybe they will choose it for their own child which would be fun.
“Meghan was right behind him and was playfully tickling her toes and said how sweet it was that I’d brought her out today.”
After whirlwind welcome, the duo headed to Government House for a private reception.
At Government House they will watch a demonstration from VicHealth's 'This Girl Can' program.
Inspired their UK counterpart, it aims to get women involved in sports.
