Police have confirmed the human remains found in Victoria bushland on Feb. 20 are that of missing Melbourne woman Karen Ristevski.
Her badly decomposed remains were located by a bushwalker off Loch Road at Mount Macedon, about 20km from where police had been previously conducting an investigation in relation to the missing mum.
Police conducted a search at the scene and are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in that area,” read a Victoria Police statement. “Missing Persons Squad detectives are appealing for anyone that may have been walking along the dirt track off Loch Road or anyone that may have seen any vehicles to contact them.”
“We were all in tears,” Ristevski’s friend, Sharryn Hili, tells WHO of her and her friends hearing the news of the discovery of a body.
“We were all on the phone.”
Karen, 47, disappeared on June 29 last year. Her husband Borce said he last saw her leaving their Avondale Heights home following an argument.
The couple have a daughter, Sarah, 21.
During their investigations into the case in December last year, police were scouring an area in Gisborne South, around 20km south of Mount Macedon.
Ristevski, who ran the fashion boutique, Bella Bleu, "was always positive, never negative,” says Hili. “She kept out of trouble. She was just sweet.”
