With awards season done and dusted, it's time for us to enjoy the "SuperBowl of fashion" as the stars descend upon the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City for the annual Met Gala.

The illustrious event sees your favourite stars and designers taking to the red carpet in on-theme ensembles to match the latest exhibition in the museum.

Last year celebrated modern American fashion with the theme "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion," while this year looks to the past with the a follow-up theme titled "In America: An Anthology of Fashion."

The dress code for the evening was "Gilded Glamour and White Tie," which saw the famous guests donning styles indicative of the Gilded Age in the late 1800s. Described as an event of "grandeur" by Vogue, outfits were inspired by the looks and design features of the era.

With co-chairs Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Regina King and Lin Manuel-Miranda, this year's star-studded Met Gala was destined to be a hit - and it certainly lived up to the hype. Scroll through to see all the best looks...
