Who is Michael J. Fox's wife?
Michael J. Fox has been married to actress Tracy Pollan since 1988.
The couple first crossed paths in 1985 after Tracy had been cast as Michael's love interest on Family Ties. While their chemistry on-screen was undeniable, their romantic relationship did not take off until 1987, with the pair reuniting on the set of Bright Lights, Big City.
After months of speculation, Michael and Tracy made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 1987 Emmy Awards. In December of the same year, Michael popped the question on Boxing Day, telling People, "I wasn't really worried that she would say no... The toughest part was trying to figure out when to get married."
In July 1988, the former co-stars tied the knot in Woodstock, Vermont surrounded by their closest family, friends, and fellow stars, with Meg Ryan, Woody Harrelson, and Dennis Quaid each being in attendance.
While the couple described the reception as a "house party," Michael revealed that what he and Tracy hoped to be a private ceremony was quickly ambushed by paparazzi.
"You've got everyone in the world that you love in a one-ace area, and five idiots are flying over your head. You can't let kids run down the street because there are people with cameras there."
Three years after their wedding day, Michael received his life-changing diagnosis of Parkinson's disease - keeping his diagnosis secret for seven years before going public in an exclusive cover special with People.
Following an outpouring of support for his diagnosis, Michael and Tracy established the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research in May 2000.
Reflecting on their journey with Parkinson's disease as a couple, Michael told CBS Mornings, "I love Tracy obviously and she's an amazing person and has gone through a lot. I realise she has a life separate from me having Parkinson's."
"She was able to get me through it and go through it with me, and she has for 35 years."
Now, after 35 years of marriage, the couple have shared that their secret to lasting romance is to "just make it up as we go along."
"It's great having a partner and having someone who knows you in a [certain] way when everyone in the world thinks they know you. [Only] one person actually knows you," the Back to the Future star told People.
To further commemorate their anniversary, Tracy took to Instagram to share a tribute to her husband, writing, "Happy anniversary, my love. Here's to many more glorious adventures together. I could not love you more."
