It’s been a transformational year for Michelle Bridges, whose blue-eyed boy, Axel, her son with Steve “Commando” Willis, turns 1 on December 19.
Asked how she’s changed, she says, “I cry at commercials now.” Yet it’s not that motherhood has softened her, the famously disciplined trainer tells WHO—rather, it’s revealed a side of her that fans mightn’t have previously spotted.
“I guess people are seeing me in a different light that they hadn’t seen me in before, but it’s always been there,” says Bridges, 46.
“I think people have always known me as being ‘that trainer,’ you know, she gets them and gives them a hard workout and rah-rah, and there’s elements of me there, for sure … but that’s only one element.”
And while she’s looking lean as ever, Bridges puts no stock in the idea of “bouncing back” from pregnancy. “I’m not a big believer in bouncing back … everything that you go through you take along with you,” she says.
“I sometimes think, ‘Oh God, I’m not as strong in my abs as I used to be,’ or ‘Geez, I haven’t done as many cardio sessions this week as I would have liked,’ but I have all of this extra joy through having Axel, so yes, I’ve grown through that experience.”
