Rickard, 32, also reportedly told police of a “situation”, which developed between him and his stepmother in the past. Rickard has previously referred to the situation as a family “conflict”, the nature of which has not been disclosed. Two weeks before she disappeared, Rickard said he called Karen to confront her over the matter.
Wearing a black blazer, jeans and carrying a gold Coach handbag and purse on the day she went missing, Karen was last seen at 10 AM on June 29 by Borce, he said, as she left their $1.1 million home in Avondale Heights in Melbourne’s north-west.
Borce, who has been formally interviewed by police as a matter of routine, said his wife left to “clear her head” following a heated argument over money. The couple are partners in formal-wear business Bella Bleu, which is in apparent financial trouble with reported debts as high as $600,000.
Despite an extensive police search, no trace of Karen has yet been found.
