The Federal Government is to give a $125 handout to around 4 million needy Australians, as rising power prices threaten to push people to the wall.
The one-off payment is expected to be included in Tuesday’s budget, with the recipients either aged pensioners, single parents, veterans, carers and people who receive the disability support pension.
According to the Daily Telegraph the estimated $285 million pay cheque will see eligible singles take home $75 and couples and couples score $125 before July.

The Energy Assistance Payment would be a welcomed relief for many Aussies who are doing it tough, said treasurer Josh Frydenberg.
‘It will particularly support older people living in NSW, with the payments to be provided to more than 760,000 people on the age pension,’ he told the Daily Telegraph.
Who will benefit from the budget bonus?
It’s been reported that around 3.9 million people from across the country will receive the $125 payout. New Idea Food reports they include:
- 2.4million pensioners
- 241,992 single parents
- 225,209 veterans
- Extra 41,000 welfare recipients in Canberra
