1. Donald Trump’s presidency
In a shock result, Donald Trump managed to out win Democratic counterpart, Hilary Clinton and become the next US president.
2. Brexit
It was a history-making year for politics as the United Kingdom voted to exit the European Union in June.
3. Italian Earthquake
A devastating 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck Norcia, Italy in October. Another earthquake also struck during August in Central Italy, killing almost 300 people.
4. DreamWorld accident
It was a heart-breaking day for Queensland when popular ride, Thunder River Rapids malfunctioned causing a group of thrill-seekers to lose their lives.
5. Syrian refugees
Syrian refugees were a hot topic throughout 2016 with cities effected by terrorism (including the city of Manbij) finally breaking free.
6. Nice Terrorist attack
A horrific terrorist attack occurred in Nice, France on Bastille Day when a truck drove into the firework-watching crowd, killing at least 84 people.
