Not only that, the device managed to break through her uterus and migrate to a totally different part of her body.
Sharing her brutal experience on Instagram, Alex confessed the common contraceptive implant ended up “pressed against her bowel”. But how did it happen?
The former reality star had the Mirena hormone-releasing IUD inserted in October 2021, just six weeks after she gave birth to her second son, Maxwell.
Hoping for a long-term and effective form of birth control, the mum of two was instead confronted with an alarming shopping list of side effects that plagued her for months.
“I instantly felt like something was wrong,” she recalled in a video.
“I had a lot of bleeding. I bled pretty much every day for seven months, so I would wither spot every day or I would get a period – which I shouldn’t – and my period were really heavy.”
She also experienced crippling pain during sex, constant bloating and more, so she knew “something wasn’t right”.
When she finally went to have the IUD removed, she was met with an unwanted surprise: her doctor couldn’t see the strings used to remove the device.
“I had to have an x-ray and it showed that my Mirena had perforated my uterus, migrated to my abdomen and was pressed against my bowel.”
She also shared a gnarly photo of the X-ray in question, showing the T-shaped device lodged sideways in her abdomen.
Though Alex’s experience with the Mirena IUD was far from perfect, many women find the device works well for them and experience few side effects.

Displaced or migrated IUDs are a rare and serious complication, as the device can theoretically move anywhere – however this is uncommon.
As with any medical device or procedure, you should talk to you doctor about if it’s right for you and the risks involved.
Her honesty about the brutal ordeal shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans, who have come to adore Alex’s openness on everything from motherhood, to pregnancy and sex.
So will she be joining the growing list of celebs starting OnlyFans accounts in the last few months? Possibly!
“Would you be interested in an educational OnlyFans?” one follower asked her on Instagram on Monday.
An eager Alex replied: “And talk about what I talk about here but more in depth? Maybe!”
