Current Bachelorette and Ten star Angie Kent has firmly said ‘nup to the cup,’ even though Network Ten is this year’s Melbourne Cup broadcaster.

The passionate animal activist shared a hashtag on Instagram underneath a recent selfie.

“Always have and always will stay true to my beliefs,” she responded when fans praised her for not taking part in the event. “Ain’t no fancy events swaying this girl. No horse’s life is worth free champagne and dressing up.”

Nup to the cup is a viral hashtag used on social media by those who are opposed to the cruel treatment of racehorses.

Ten took over the broadcasting of Melbourne Cup this year in what is believed to be a staggering $100 million deal over five years.

Angie is currently starring in this season’s The Bachelorette, a popular reality show broadcast by Network Ten.

However, despite what may have been considered an awkward comment from the 29-year-old, Ten are sticking by their star.

“Angie is honest and passionate about what she believes in. She has always been candid and open — that is what we love about her,” a spokesperson told The Daily Telegraph.

Earlier on this week, Angie was left less than impressed when Bachelorette front runner, Ryan admitted he had previously applied for Ali Oetjen’s season.

“Apparently he came just for me but apparently he also auditioned for f***ing Ali! So…,” Angie said, before adding: “Oh my god, what if he slides into Ali’s DMs too?”
