Speaking to WHO exclusively, Apollo opens up about his music career, how he got over Sophie Monk and reveals his mother didn’t believe he didn’t win the final rose!
Are you on the mend?
Yeah I’m on the mend. It was definitely not the ending I was hoping for and I did give the most awkward moment in Australian TV history. But yeah, I’m on the mend.
I don’t know about awkward but we found it very sad.
Yeah and it was. And in the moment too. I was exhausted, I hadn’t slept the night before because I was quite nervous coming into it and by the stage when we sat down I was half asleep and I just absolutely poured my heart out and it just went sort of, sort of silent and you know she asked the question about marriage and I answered it as if I was thinking about how long it would be until I wanted kids and then I tried to correct myself and then it was just yeah. It crumbled like the breadsticks in front of me.
Are you ready to date yet?
Yeah look I’m, I’ve had a fair bit of time now and I had an adventure … But I’m still looking for love. For that special someone. So yeah, I’m 100% looking for love now.
Are you on Tinder?
No, see I’m so old fashioned, I like to meet people face to face. Yeah, I like to feel a spark there straight away.
Who do you think is going to win?
That’s a hard question, very hard question. Well they’re both there, obviously there’s things she likes about both of them. Well Jarrod, judging from the last episode, Jarrod was looking pretty good.
You think Jarrod’s a winner?
No, no, I’m fence sitting because I think I’m going to be as surprised as everyone else.
Do you think there would have been a different outcome if you met Sophie at a bar?
I’m really crap with girls so I probably wouldn’t have been the one to approach. That’s so hard to say, I don’t know. It’s like the hope’s over, yeah I don’t know.
Was it hard with Sophie meeting your family, what did they think after you came off?
It’s really funny because I came off and I sat down with Brian and I was like it was an absolutely amazing experience and it didn’t end the way I would have liked it to but I cherished every moment. And mum’s straight away like nah, nah, you’re not telling us something I reckon you’ve won and even until last night’s episode she was convinced that I was. That’s the trouble when I’m always joking about things no one ever knows it’s true.
Yeah, mum loved Sophie. They hit it off.
How did you move on from Sophie?
As soon as I finished as soon as I left in the limo went back to the hotel, ordered a bunch of pizza. And I’ve written a journal, when I was in there just about experiences and feelings and that sort of thing. And I just sat there and reflected on the experience and just had a look at all the amazing experiences and all the positives you know all the friends that I met and the life lessons I’ve learned. That definitely helped on that first night.
Everyone has seen your amazing transformation – what does your gym routine look like?
Well, to be honest I probably have to only go to the gym about three times a week but I enjoy doing other things. So like I’m big into martial arts, so I do mixed martial arts. Great fitness and I enjoy it. You know, I’ll go for a surf, catch up with friends and go for a run. You know, I like to mix it up but I think yeah if you’re always doing different things that are active you’ll never get bored of it.
You know if you’re playing basketball with friends one day and the next day you go to the gym or whatever, you’re not going ugh going to the gym again to run on the treadmill.
What’s your ultimate cheat meal?
My ultimate cheat meal. I’m going to let you in on a little insider, my favourite dessert is caramel Tim Tams. I’ve never opened a packet and not finished the entire packet. So donuts and caramel Tim Tams, definitely the way to my heart.
Is there anything that wasn’t shown that you wish had been shown?
Yeah, I think with everyone there’s always going to be stuff like that, but there’s limited time. The show only goes for an hour and they’ve got so much stuff to show that they can only fit a certain amount of stuff in there so you can never get frustrated about that.
You’ve got some new music coming out – when did you get into music?
It’s so funny I’ve been writing it since before I was 12 so this definitely isn’t something new. And this is a song that I wrote while I was in recovery in the hospital and it’s just about being addicted to life and good vibes. My friends were pushing me to release it at the start of the year so you know did the artwork and everything and then I went to do it and then I went on the show. And then about three and a half months ago the guy doing my artwork put it up and then everyone’s only really onto it this week.
Can we expect an album?
That’s what I mean I’ve been writing and performing for years. So there’s a lot of music and stuff there. There’s stuff that I’ve released before, there’s more stuff that I haven’t. I’ve always been an entertainer with magic and music so I’ll just keep that going.
We hope so, because it would break our hearts if we won’t get to see more of this face around!
