Ash Barty has won her maiden grand slam in a stunning final beating Czech player Marketa Vondrousova, in straight sets.

Ashleigh Barty has become the first Australian woman in an impressive 46 years to win a French Open final with Aussie Legends Margaret Court,  Evonne Goolagong Cawley and Lesley Bowrey also taking out the grand slam title at Roland Garros nearly 50 years ago.

Last night marked the first time 23-year-old Ashleigh Barty has EVER made it into a grand slam final, besting her opponent in a truly spectacular fashion, beating Vondrousova 6-1 6-3.

The Australian French Open champion of 2019 sounded totally overwhelmed with the win. 

Barty told the press: “I have been able to play really good tennis when I’ve needed it. I never dreamt that I’d be sitting here with this trophy here at the French Open.”
